CBT - Case Study Employers
Pinar Parlar was part of the ‘Class of 2005’, the first group of students offered placements by Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). Her supervisor on the Bond sales desk remembers her well: ‘Having Pinar on our desk was an absolute pleasure, she was a breath of fresh air, always smiling while producing some very well researched and articulate work. She took to her work like she did her social life - never settling for second best’. This singled her out as a potential star for the future and we were keen to have her back the following summer at the end of her first year at university. In 2006 she worked on the FX sales desk. Again she received rave reviews from her supervisor: ‘When Pinar joined us it soon became clear that she had the personality required to succeed in the fast paced and challenging environment of Foreign Exchange sales. She was a team player, a good communicator and she worked hard to deliver her projects on time. It also helped that she was rarely satisfied with the first answer or the first results of her work - her enthusiasm and dedication making her a real stand out.’
By now we were pretty convinced we’d found a real future asset and offered her a 2007 placement in our Head Office in Toronto. Within days she had settled in and made a real impression on the team. We knew then that she had the makings of an excellent employee and made her an offer of full-time employment as a graduate trainee to start when she graduates next summer. The best news of all is that she has accepted.
Pinar is a shining example that you do not need to have gone to a Public School and a Redbrick University to get on in the City. What you need is enthusiasm, intelligence and dedication. She is one of the new breed of diverse young people who will continue to make the City an exciting, demanding and ultimately rewarding place to work.
