Build your career from within the workforce
University isn’t the only route to success - instead you can build your career from within the workforce, says Victoria Lambert.
An estimated one-third of applicants (over 200,000 young people) face rejection from universities this autumn due to increased competition over university places. Others are simply not bothering to apply, thanks partly to poorer than expected results, and partly to concerns over accumulating debt. This means many more are now job hunting or looking for trainee schemes or apprenticeships instead.
As The Daily Telegraph reported this week, several major British companies, from Network Rail to Marks & Spencer, are reporting higher than average applications for their A-level entry jobs.
So if you’ve just received your results and decided that – for whatever reason – university is not on, what next?
