We team up with Berwin Leighton Paisner to help you access a career in law
02 Dec 14

Are you interested in a career in law?
Would you be interested in a two week paid summer internship, with a guaranteed interview for a Training Contract at the end of the placement?
Are you a law student in your penultimate year, a non-law student in their final year or a recent graduate?

If the answer is YES then we’re excited to introduce a new partnership between the Brokerage and Berwin Leighton Paisner LLP!

Berwin Leighton Paisner (or BLP) are one of the City’s best known and most innovative law firms. More than 800 lawyers work across 11 international offices, for clients that include 12 major banks and many FTSE100/Fortune 500 companies.

They’ve won Legal Week’s Best Graduate Legal Employer award for the past four years, along with numerous other awards recognising the effort and investment they put into developing their staff throughout their career.

All in all – a brilliant firm to work for!

BLP have given us up to SIX places on their highly regarded summer vacation scheme – exclusively for Brokerage candidates. Applying through the Brokerage means you will be in a much smaller candidate pool than the general applications – and of course we will be able to provide advice and guidance on your application.

ACADEMIC CRITERIA FOR BLP’S SUMMER VACATION SCHEME:
Candidates should have:
• 340 UCAS points (AAB) at A level or equivalent
• A 2:1 (or above) degree – predicted or achieved

Successful candidates will be provided with a two week paid placement in the firm, during which you will sit in two different departments and be provided with a trainee buddy for both weeks. There will be a variety of talks, presentations and social activities, aiming to ensure you get a real insight into life as a trainee at BLP.

The summer vacation placements are 15-26 June, 6-17 July and 27 July-7 August 2015, and you would be based at BLP’s London Bridge office.

Most excitingly, and quite uniquely, during the second week of your placement you will have a training contract interview with two partners at the firm. If you are successful after the interview, you will be offered a training contract – and your future career in law will be sorted!

IMPORTANT:

This opportunity will be competitive, so if your CV is not up to scratch you will NOT be shortlisted for the next stage, so here’s a few tips:

• Two pages is fine for this opportunity.
• Remember that working in corporate law absolutely requires extremely accurate written communication and attention to detail. Mistakes on your CV will HEAVILY count against you!
• Outline all your A level grades, it should be clear that you’ve met the UCAS point requirement, as well as your GCSE grades for at least the core subjects. You could also outline results on your degree modules if relevant.

Applications for Brokerage students are open until Tuesday 16th December. To apply, please send a copy of your CV to Graham.

After submitting CVs, candidates will need to take part in a multi-stage application process. This will involve a written aptitude test, followed by an assessment centre in February. The Brokerage will be supporting you throughout, of course.

This opportunity is exclusively for Brokerage students. We welcome new candidates if they meet our eligibility criteria, but they’ll need to register with us before they can apply for this opportunity (so feel free to tell your friends!).
