The Brokerage team hit the ground running, as the first working week of the year got off to a flying start with six Masterclass events for our registered candidates to sign up to attend, with over twenty five students registered for each session.
On Tuesday, leading insurance firm Marsh delivered a morning long session on “Careers in Insurance and Risk Management", hosted by their Graduate Recruitment Manager, Karen Choong. During the morning students were able to hear from a broker, look at a case study and attend a speed networking lunch attended by Marsh employees from a range of different areas of the business. Students were also treated to a tour of Lloyd’s of London in the afternoon.
Comments from students who attended this masterclass included, “it was a very helpful masterclass which has really encouraged me to pursue insurance and made Marsh a top employment option in the future” and “thank you to the Brokerage and Marsh for the insightful event, I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Thanks to everyone who took the time out to make the masterclass informative, interesting and fun!”.
On Wednesday, our current chair of the Brokerage Alumni Network, Ellen Lu from Barclays, returned to deliver a session on "An Introduction to Derivatives". Students commented that they really enjoyed hearing about the dad-to-day role of an analyst and hearing Ellen’s story of how she got to where she is today.
On Thursday, we delivered three sessions, Helene Brichet from Visa stepped up to talk to candidates about “Strategy and Corporate Development, with an insight into to the payments industry". Another of our Brokerage Alumni Board members, Chelcie Whitmore, TfL, gave a presentation and discussion about “Marketing and Communications strategies” and Brokerage alumni Ime Udoh hosted a session at his workplace, the FCA on the topic of “The role of a Business Analyst”.
Today, Friday, we welcomed back another of our Alumni Board, Buket Unat, now a management consultant at Visa who came in to speak to our candidates for nearly 3 hours about "An introduction to strategy and management consulting". Comments from students included, “Buket’s background was relatable and she was very inspiring” and “I found out about a sector that I didn’t previously know much about”.
The candidates not only learn about careers out there from people actually doing them, but gain such an insight into ways in to the sector, but also the skills and personalities needed.
And of course, all our candidates are from London’s state schools demonstrating that you can succeed, whatever your family background or income, if you work hard and get some direction.
We’re so grateful to have so many of our alumni willing and able to give back to the Brokerage by supporting our current candidates and young people, who really have a lot to gain by learning from former candidates with similar academic and social backgrounds. Thank you to you all!
