Young Londoners explore career opportunities within the London Market and reinsurance/legacy sector. We have been working with IRLA, the UK-based market body for insurance and reinsurance legacy management professionals, to provide young Londoners with insight into the London Market and reinsurance/legacy sector.

Last week, students got a glimpse into the world of insurance at a breakfast organised by IRLA. 11 young professionals on The Brokerage Pathway attended the event where they met four senior ladies who had developed a career in this field.

Deputy Chairman, Jenny Fair (Fidelis Consultants), Secretariat, Leslie-Ann Giovnilli (AMS Outsourcing), Heather Russell (Hampden Group) and Margaret Ellis (Consultant) discussed how their paths led to a career in reinsurance, which encouraged interaction and confidence in their own career choices.

Jenny Fair said: “IRLA operates in a market of mainly older personnel and we are well aware that one of our roles for our members is to provide as much relevant communication with external organisations as we can to encourage interest in the legacy market. We were very excited by the high level of engagement from the students who attended but were not at all surprised by the overall intelligence and drive that they all displayed. We all felt that we would be very happy to employ any one of those present.

The breakfast was an opportunity for the young professionals to ask questions and take away advice that would help them with their own personal and career development.
