Sixth form opportunities

Working in the City

Funded by The Worshipful Company of International Bankers (WCIB), Working in the City is The Brokerage’s flagship workshop programme for state schools and colleges in London and has been running for over 10 years. Hosted by companies across London’s financial districts, Working in the City gives students an insight into the world of work in financial, professional and related Worshipful Company of International Bankersbusinesses.

Working in the City is a two part programme, with each workshop also available as a standalone. Part one allows students to find out more about the City and the roles available.

They will be given the chance to interview employees about their careers and responsibilities and gain a useful and realistic understanding of what it takes to be successful.

Part two focuses on developing students’ self-awareness, strengthening their employability skills and preparing them for the interview process. Here, employees will interview students and give them useful feedback and practice for their future.

These workshops are open to students in Year 10 through to Year 13 from state schools across all London boroughs. Each workshop is tailored to fit the needs of the group.

Mock Assessment Centres

Funded by Barnett Waddingham LLP, our Mock Assessment Centres are designed to give sixth form students an insight into what it takes to gain a graduate or school leaver position within financial, professional and related services. The workshops take place in corporate surroundings and provide the young people with an opportunity to learn from employees working in prestigious businesses.

Mock Assessment Centre

The workshop is structured as a real-life assessment centre where students participate in psychometric tests, group tasks, case studies, and delivering presentations, gaining insight to each area and feedback throughout each activity. In addition, students are interviewed by employees at the host firms, who provide individual feedback to help develop their skills. Finally, students are given the opportunity to ask the employee volunteers for advice and about their recruitment experiences.

State schools across all London boroughs are eligible for these sessions, with 20-24 students from two schools taking part in each session; providing them with the opportunity to network with other students as well as London employees.
