Help students understand the many ways in which they could be part of the City by showing them that you're more approachable than they may think!
What do you do as a volunteer?
Most of our opportunities entail volunteers giving up about an hour of their time to be informally interviewed by a number of small groups of students. This is a chance for you to talk to students on their level about your experiences of working life. We also require some volunteers to give short talks and presentations on specific career paths and recruitment advice.
What type of students will you be talking to?
Depending on which programme they are on you could be talking to students from a wide range of backgrounds and abilities. The younger students are often surprised about how 'normal' our volunteers are, but can also surprise the volunteers themselves with very searching and relevant questions. The older students tend already have an interest in the City and will want your opinions and advice on how they can improve their chances.
What's the benefit to you?
Everybody has preconceived ideas regarding groups and individuals that lead lives different to their own. These sessions can help you rethink those ideas and act as an easy entry point to undertake more community support work in the future.
