The Brokerage connection: City of London Business Traineeship with the City of London Corporation, 2013.

How did you first get involved with The Brokerage?
I was interested in getting into law. A friend at sixth form told me there was the possibility of working in a legal office over the summer and getting paid for it. It turned out he was talking about The Brokerage’s City of London Business Traineeship programme so I signed up.

What happened next?
After registering, I received feedback on my CV and interview coaching. I was then interviewed for a placement with the legal office of the City of London Corporation. I was really nervous, but once we started talking I let my nerves drop. All the practice I had done with The Brokerage helped me to answer the questions with confidence and I was offered a place.

What did you do on your placement?
I worked closely with a team of solicitors, undertaking research tasks and preparing legal documents. The entire team was lovely and my manager, Tina Armstrong, was extremely supportive. It was a great experience.

What advice would you give to our current candidates?
London is your city. Don’t feel like you can’t go anywhere. You can bring your bright with you wherever you go – it’s what you are like as a person that a company is interested in most. Gain as much experience as you can. You never know what you might hear that will steer your course.

  • I signed up with The Brokerage and attended a number of workshops which helped me to practice interview skills, improve my CV and prepare for online tests that can often be found in most application processes.
