Attendees had the opportunity to talk to volunteers and staff from CFC who represented different roles within CFC Insurance. This setup allowed participants to gain insights into how each department operates and collaborates, providing a holistic view of the industry.

Informal Networking and Refreshments

A standout feature of the event was the informal networking session. Students mingled with industry professionals and peers, engaging in meaningful conversations while enjoying a selection of teas, coffees, and cupcakes. This session emphasised the essence of networking: making connections that could potentially shape future careers.

Key topics covered during the event included business communication and insurance knowledge, which are essential areas for any aspiring finance professional. The event targeted Year 12/13 students and university students graduating in the 2024/25 academic year, providing valuable exposure to the finance industry at a critical juncture in their educational journeys.

Malijka Wilkinson, a former Brokerage candidate and now an IBA Operations Technician at CFC, shared her inspiring story. Malijka hated school and didn’t get on as well there. She ended up being a pot washer, not knowing what she wanted to do. She became a candidate for The Brokerage, attended some events and applied for a role at CFC. She has now been there for six months and is so happy. She said that six months ago, she would never have believed she’d be in the Lloyd’s building representing a big firm like CFC.

“I can’t believe how far I’ve come, and that’s thanks to the support from The Brokerage.”

Her journey is a testament to the effectiveness of the support and guidance provided by The Brokerage.

Uriel Narh-Yohuno, an aspiring actuary and Year 12 A-level student, shared his thoughts on the event:

“Attending last week’s insight event with CFC, hosted by The Brokerage, compelled me to step out of my comfort zone and network with industry professionals and summer interns inside the prestigious Lloyd’s of London building.

“Hearing about the personal experiences of others gave me a wider understanding of what a typical day working in the insurance sector holds and the various avenues to the industry, even from non-mathematical backgrounds.

“I’m looking forward to attending more events with The Brokerage to bridge the gap between my education and the workforce, especially in actuarial services”

Taylor reflected on the event and said:

“This event has been a real highlight of the year. Insurance is such an incredibly diverse and interesting sector and it was fantastic to be able to meet and talk with the future talent of the Insurance sector. One of the highlights of my role is being able to see candidates at the start of their journey and it was great to meet so many candidates coming along to their first event with us.”
