Young Londoners build skills and knowledge at the IntoWork Conference

Over 90 young people attend the IntoWork Conference

How do I stand out at an assessment centre? What makes a successful interview? What key skills do employers look for when recruiting young talent?

These are just a few of the questions our candidates were hoping to gain answers to at the annual IntoWork Conference held on Friday 20th July at Lloyd’s.

In its fifth year, the conference is designed to develop employability skills of young people, provide insight into careers in the City and an opportunity to understand Lloyd’s, the world’s specialist insurance market.

The conference provided the perfect opportunity for over 90 aspiring young professionals to build their knowledge, enhance their skills set and engage with more than 50 professional volunteers from across the Lloyd’s market.

The conference is part of Lloyd’s Community Programme, a Lloyd’s market wide volunteering initiative which aims to empower people in our neighbouring communities to achieve their potential.

Set in the unique building of Lloyd’s, we were delighted to see so many young Londoners eager and excited for the day ahead – and what a full day it would be!

Students from across London took part in a range of interactive sessions on psychometric tests, mock interviews, a panel discussion and a careers fair of insurance companies, with plenty of time for the attendees to network with their peers and industry experts.

The Q&A session with individuals from across the Lloyd’s market gave the young people further insight into the insurance sector, with the panel sharing their own career journeys into the industry and the City.

The day came to a close with a careers fair, promoting entry level job opportunities available in the market. Taking all they’ve learnt from across the day, young people networked with employers with real confidence and the room was buzzing!

After the event, each young person receives detailed feedback from volunteers on their mock interviews and assessment centre performance to help best prepare them for upcoming opportunities.

Catching up with some of the delegates, it was great to hear what they’d taken away from the day.

The sessions were really useful, especially the mock interviews where we received feedback.”

It was a very informative event. I now know so much more about the careers available within the insurance industry.”

It was great to explore the various career paths available.”

I learnt that communication is a key skill that is needed for so many things – like the event today where I had to speak to new people.”

A huge thank you to all the young people who attended, and to our wonderful Lloyd’s market volunteers for taking part!
