The students, from Chingford Foundation School and Woolwich Polytechnic School, were winners of the schools writing competition, run in partnership with City livery company The Worshipful Company of International Bankers.
The school champions were invited to take part in the 800-year-old tradition, walking in the procession with members of the livery company and their float, which had been designed to celebrate the ingenuity and diversity of the City.
The competition, facilitated by The Brokerage, invites young people from London’s state schools to write the best essay on a given subject.
Now in its 11th year, the competition aims to raise aspirations of non-advantaged Londoners, encouraging them to explore the employment areas on their doorstep in the City.
This year’s essay title saw students draft a letter to the Lord Mayor discussing how diversity could be improved in the City’s workforce.
Participation in the show presented the students with a unique opportunity to network with professionals from across the financial sector, sharing their career ambitions and thoughts on the City.
Following the competition awards in December, all winners will be invited to take part in a special spring careers programme where they will learn about financial, professional and related services businesses and the routes into related careers.
