On 17 September 2025, The Brokerage partnership with Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) joined together to host an inspiring early careers networking event at the company’s headquarters in the iconic Walkie Talkie building central London. The event brought together 20 ambitious students and 10 dedicated LSM volunteers, creating a powerful space for young people to build confidence, expand their networks, and gain first-hand insight into careers in insurance and financial services as well as facilitating the vital networking skills that support Early Career Talent.

Pre-Event Campaign by The Brokerage to Attract Students

To maximise reach, The Brokerage designed and delivered a targeted pre-event advertising campaign through its Next Gen Talent Network. Promoted online and via email, the campaign invited students to join a relaxed evening of networking with promises to:

  • Meet and connect with ambitious young people

  • Build confidence and practise networking

  • Chat with professionals in a supportive, informal setting

This recruitment campaign successfully attracted a diverse group of motivated young people keen to explore professional pathways and connect directly with industry experts at Liberty Specialty Markets.

Insights from Industry Professionals

The evening itself was designed to help students level up their networking skills in a supportive setting. LSM professionals shared career journeys, practical advice, and tips on navigating the workplace. Core messages included the importance of leveraging relationships, developing technical expertise, and finding mentors to guide and inspire career progression.

Strengthening the Partnership: Work Experience and Apprenticeships

Students were also given a detailed introduction to LSM’s Early Careers Programme, which provides a rotational structure across claims and underwriting, alongside structured training in both technical and soft skills. Over the two-year programme, participants benefit from networking opportunities, inductions, and ongoing professional development.

Maria from LSM’s Early Careers team explained the recruitment process, which typically involves a virtual interview and assessment day designed to explore candidates’ problem-solving abilities, teamwork, communication skills, and alignment with LSM’s values.

From Candidate to Colleague: Aryman’s Story

One of the evening’s most powerful moments came from Aryman, a former Brokerage Next Gen Talent Network candidate who is now on the Reinsurance Apprenticeship Programme at Liberty Specialty Markets. Attending the event as an LSM volunteer, Aryman shared his journey and inspired students with first-hand advice:

“I work on the Reinsurance hand of the business (LMRe). I am on a two-year rotational scheme with five rotations – Operations, Portfolio Management, Strategic Operations, Cyber Underwriting, and Claims. I have one year left, and each placement has given me new skills and perspectives.”

Reflecting on the event, Aryman said:

“The students were very engaged and really came to learn more about the industry. They asked some really insightful questions. It’s great to see so many young individuals eager to learn about the insurance industry.”

On giving back, he added:

“The best part of the evening was being able to share my own experiences. I’ve been through the process fairly recently, and it was rewarding to help young individuals understand what their careers could look like.”

And his top tip for young people?

“Learning professional etiquette. It’s not talked about enough, but using clear language and having a firm handshake can make the difference between success and rejection in an application process.”
