Mentors and mentees begin their journey.
On 7th June, we joined Citi and State Street to welcome the 2017 cohort of mentors and mentees onto our female mentoring programme, Momentum.
Held at State Street in Canary Wharf, the 18 female candidates taking part were all very excited to meet their mentors for the first time! The programme sees these aspiring professionals work on key skills that will help them to pursue a career in finance.
The Momentum programme is a unique cross-firm mentoring scheme that we run in partnership with Citi and State Street designed to foster the advancement of female leadership talent and create impact with undergraduate women aiming for a future career in the banking industry.
The undergraduate students work closely with a mid-level executive at one of the two firms who, in turn, receive mentoring from senior executives from the other organisation.
What better way for these young people to improve their employability than learning from an employee of a leading financial services company, and within a professional working environment!
We were delighted that Kathryn MacCarthy, a former Momentum mentee, could join us for the launch event where she shared her experience of the 2016 programme, giving advice to the current cohort about to begin their own journey.
Speaking about her experience, Kathryn said: “The Momentum programme was amazing. I loved having a female mentor who was so talented in her craft and owned her role. It was also incredible to see how friendly people at Citi were and experience the dynamic of the trading floor when I met with my mentor”.
In September, the participants came together again for the graduation event, celebrating all they had achieved. Finalists of the programme’s presentation challenge demonstrated the skills they’ve learnt when they presented their business idea to a panel of judges. The two decided winners secured a paid summer internship with either Citi or State Street.
Well done to all involved!
