Fidelis: Recruiting Diverse Talent

Fidelis, an insurance firm which underwrites insurance and reinsurance, has worked closely with The Brokerage on various programmes, over many years, including our flagship summer placement programme.  Corporate Responsibility is at the heart of Fidelis’s value set, and as such working with The Brokerage has been a key part of delivering on their values.

Currently in 2020, Fidelis have five Brokerage alumni working in the organisation: two in permanent entry level roles and the remaining three in part time roles off the back of prior summer internships. Mercedesz Musincki is currently employed in the permanent position of D&F Underwriting Assistant. Arif Rahman is employed in the permanent position of Underwriting Assistant. In addition to their initial intern experience, Fidelis continues to support students by offering short-term work assignments during summer and holiday break. For the past three years, Deborah Abraham has spent her holiday and summer breaks working in the Project Management Office gaining experience in IT project delivery and end-user support. Edison Lusha returned to Fidelis after his initial internship to work with the Compliance team for a year. Minhazur Rahman extended his initial internship and remained in the organisation working for the Accounts Payable team.

Edison Lusha who completed an internship at Fidelis Insurance last summer comments:

“I decided to take a gap year as I was not satisfied with my A Level results and my manager at Fidelis was willing to offer me (initial 6-month extension which became a one year placement) to study and work with full flexibility. This meant I could work until February and have leave to prepare for exams. However in light of Covid 19, exams were cancelled, and my contract was extended to end of August, before I am due to study at Law at University of  Birmingham in the autumn.

I am a Legal and Governance Assistant in the Legal and Compliance team, my role consists of completing regulatory returns and constant due diligence on brokers and clients as well as being on top of law changes that may impact the company.

The internship has given me a boost and exposure to the legal profession which I am keen to pursue after university. In fact, after 2 months of working at Fidelis, I was approached on LinkedIn and had interview at a competitor’s office which shows it has made a massive impact on my CV, all thanks to Brokerage connecting me to Fidelis.”

The Brokerage and Fidelis are excited about their future opportunities together, and continuing to support our young talent.
