A Reflection of My Journey as a Brokerage Candidate by Diana Hysenaj, Generation 2020 Ambassador

Transformative, enjoyable and impactful…

Transformative

By participating in different insight days, work placements and webinars, I have been able to access experiences I would not have thought possible. I have been able to grow as a young person and improve my skills along the way. For example, the opportunity to attend the Lloyd’s IntoWork Conference allowed me to gain invaluable insight into psychometric tests while also giving me the chance to ask senior professionals questions during the panel event. I have been able to use the skills I have developed from participation in these events. As a food bank volunteer, I have been able to communicate well with others, work under pressure and work in a team.  I improved my networking and presentations skills throughout my time as a Brokerage candidate, demonstrating how I have been able to put them into practice.

I believe that all the transformative experiences I have been able to access, have allowed me to gain an insight into areas I may be interested in pursuing in the future while also providing awareness of next steps I need to take to reach my goals.

Enjoyable

From commuting on busy trains around London to meeting such amazing and talented young people, I have had the most fantastic two years! I have also appreciated all the trial and error moments I have had as it has allowed me to reflect on what I would like to work on in the future. During the lockdown, I was successful in my application to take part in The Brokerage online mentoring programme! I  had the opportunity to meet my mentor online weekly to discuss my goals and work on areas I would like to improve on. My supportive mentor- Charlotte from ArgoGlobal provided a space where I could ask questions and gain insight into various divisions in the industry while also guiding and providing support where necessary. There have been many more highlights which I cherish and I thank all my fellow Brokerage candidates,  the staff at The Brokerage and all the employers who have contributed to my growth.

Impactful

It’s been two years since I became a Brokerage candidate and now I am a Generation 2020 Ambassador. I want to work hard to continue to make an impact and help create further transformative experiences for young people like me. I am so proud to be a part of an organisation like The Brokerage who are passionate about creating opportunities for young people, who want to improve diversity and inclusion and so much more! I hope that in the future, diversity and inclusion, and social mobility can be increased in the workplace. We  can make this happen together.

Thank you so much to Katerina, Oris, Kieron, Tom, Katie, Jennifer and all The Brokerage staff for all the hard work put into making such transformative, enjoyable and impactful experiences for young people like me.

  • The Brokerage is truly a life-changing organisation. I think I can confidently say that without The Brokerage I would not have begun a career in the insurance sector.
