The City of London Business Traineeship begins

We officially welcomed candidates onto the 2017 City Business Traineeship (CBT) Programme.

On Friday 30th June, we held a pre-internship briefing in the City of London to wish students good luck and provide final information and guidance before their placements.

We were delighted to welcome the City of London’s Chairman of the Education Board, Henry Colthurst, who congratulated the class of 2017 on securing an internship and gave his advice on how they could get the most out of their experience.

Henry told the candidates that through excellent work experience and a solid educational foundation, they can all achieve remarkable things – we couldn’t agree more!

Throughout the event, the CBT students took part in group activities to prepare themselves for the world of work.

We were honoured that former candidates of the CBT Programme, Nigel Bubi, Asma Noori, Sufiyaan Osman and Imharia Ughu, joined us at the event to participate in a panel discussion with the current cohort.

Nigel, Asma, Sufiyaan and Imharia completed their CBT internships at Mitsubishi, the City of London Corporation, UBS and Marsh, respectively, and are now active members of The Brokerage’s alumni network, having gone on to secure employment with the likes of Goldman Sachs, EY and the City of London Corporation.

The students heard first-hand what it’s like to work in a corporate environment. The stories were informative, and somewhat entertaining, as the panel answered questions from the audience about their experiences in a City firm.

Some of the companies that students will be working at this summer include, DWF, Marsh, Société Générale and William Blair.

Since 2000, we have delivered the City of London Corporation’s flagship employability programme. The award-winning programme gives state-educated ambitious and talented young residents from London the chance to undertake paid internships with City employers.

  • Before The Brokerage gave a presentation at my school, I didn’t even know what an internship was. I just thought it was something that university students do. Fast forward a few months and here I am, working in the heart of London.
