Generation 2020 Academy: Key Highlights

Last year we launched the Generation 2020 Academy, an integrated digital programme to help inspire and support hundreds of the most disadvantaged, talented young people in our community. Made up of four core components, including online mentoring and masterclasses, the Academy was designed to support our young people build credibility and confidence in a changing digital world, whilst navigating the employment landscape. We wanted to provide opportunities that were pandemic proof, ensuring that our young people would not be further disadvantaged as a result of the crisis.

The Academy was a fantastic success, exceeding targets and proving that even in the ‘new normal’ The Brokerage programmes can continue and our young people can succeed. The Generation 2020 Academy could not have happened without the generous support of 33 different partners who provided funding and volunteers to make the programme happen.

Our highlights:

  • 292 Brokerage candidates (Year 12 to undergraduates) participated in the Academy
  • 131 mentoring pairs worked together, meeting for over 750 mentoring sessions
  • 80% of young people said they significantly improved their skills
  • 1000+ volunteering hours were provided

You can read more about what our young people achieved during this time and the full impact in this report. You can also watch the Class of 2020 graduate virtually in this ceremony video.

  • The team at The Brokerage have put together a very well thought out programme. They have even asked students to trial their content and have taken our thoughts into their consideration. All the modules will be really helpful to me because they target exactly what I am not sure about such as how to write a good CV and cover letter, and how to use LinkedIn most effectively. I think this has been a very beneficial opportunity to me; I can’t wait to start the programme!
