Applications are now open for the Newton Vocational Trainee Scheme
For over ten years The Brokerage have been working with Newton Investment Management to place young people onto their vocational trainee scheme, which was developed to place bright yet overlooked A level students into the company, providing the opportunity to work at a global investment management firm whilst continuing their higher education.
Newton IM place talented Brokerage candidates onto their vocational trainee scheme. The programme runs for three and a half years and provides candidates with the opportunity to work at Newton while studying towards an HND in Business (including accounting & finance) for the first two years, followed by further studies towards a BA hons degree in Business Studies/Business Management. The degree and all education is fully funded by Newton.
Trainees are fully supported along the way working closely with their line manager, team members and Programme Coordinators to create an environment where the trainees feel included and comfortable as part of the team. This includes a detailed onboarding process, a mentor, ample time to study and access to the Programme Co-ordinator as an independent support, in addition to line management support. Trainees also have close links with colleagues who are also in the programme and those who have already graduated.
A graduate of the programme, now a Lead Financial Analyst sums it up:
‘The programme helps bridge the gap between the City and those from low income backgrounds – my mother worked in the care sector, my father in security so neither of them had any experience of working in the City. This programme provided that opportunity and helped show me the options available and what I was capable of. I have gained incredible experience and progressed rapidly in a genuinely inclusive environment, and don’t believe I would have achieved this if I wasn’t part of this programme.’
