Mentoring case study: Joanne

1. Why did you decide to become a mentor on the Aspire mentoring programme?
I was aware of the programme happening last year so when my manager asked if I’d like to be involved, I jumped at the chance. I wish this kind of programme ran when I was leaving school because I was completely lost. There’s so much choice out there.

2. Have you seen a development in your mentee’s skills since the programme began?
She’s much more confident. She’s thinking more in terms of her presentation skills and what should be included on her CV.

3. What has been a highlight of the programme for you?
Meeting my mentee. She always has a big smile on her face and seeing her at the graduation event was definitely a highlight too – watching her presenting to a room full of strangers and doing so well.

4. Would you recommend mentoring to others?
Definitely do it. It’s really rewarding. You’re rooting for them the whole way through. You just want to help them and give guidance.

  • I’d like to thank you for giving students the opportunity to take part in the schools essay competition. It was an enriching experience for all participants.
