Meta Hosts Insight Event for Brokerage Candidates: Building Career Paths and Skills in Tech

Meta Oct 24 Insight Day
Meta Insight Day Oct 2024 (32)

Last week, Meta hosted an inspiring Elevate insight session exclusively for candidates from The Brokerage, offering an up-close look at the world of tech and the valuable career paths within it. The event, led by Meta’s Hannah Shomade, introduced our candidates to the exciting six-week Meta Elevate Programme. Designed to connect young people with one of the world’s most innovative companies, the programme is a unique opportunity for candidates to gain skills and insights that will shape their futures in tech, sales, and product management.

Now in its fifth year, the Meta Elevate Programme has been a transformative experience for many of our candidates. It builds diverse talent pipelines by pairing candidates with Meta mentors who offer hands-on training and personalized career guidance. With over 5,000 employees across global offices, Meta’s professionals provide a firsthand look at the essential skills needed to thrive in tech today.

Highlights from the Meta Elevate Insight Session

Career Pathways in Tech
One of the key takeaways from the event was Meta’s emphasis on experience and skills over traditional qualifications. Candidates learned that roles in tech giants like Meta and Google often value real-world expertise, especially in fields like computer science and media, over formal degrees. This opens doors for diverse backgrounds to find a place in the industry.

Broad Range of Opportunities
The Elevate Programme offers exposure to various fields, making it ideal for candidates with backgrounds in finance, computer science, and beyond. During the session, candidates were introduced to roles in data privacy, GDPR, risk reviews, and data analysis—highlighting how skills gained through the programme can be applied across multiple industries.

Exploring Emerging Tech Trends
Meta’s professionals shared insights into cutting-edge trends, including generative AI and augmented reality (AR), both of which are playing a key role in shaping consumer-facing technology. These advancements are pivotal in the advertising sector, where businesses aim to reach the right audience at the right time. Candidates also learned about AI-driven features like Messenger’s image generation tools, which point to exciting, innovative changes on the horizon.

Content Creation at Scale
With 3.5 billion people interacting with Reels every day, Meta’s Instagram team provided insights into creating engaging, digestible, and relatable content. They also shared Meta’s commitment to digital safety, discussing how user protection is a core focus across platforms like Instagram.

Thanks:

Huge thanks to Lauren Keane, Richard Costa-D’sa, the whole Meta team, Lisa Moshiro, and Jamie Crawford, who answered questions on the night. All were truly inspiring for our candidates. A shoutout goes to Tamique Weekes, a speaker on stage talking about the various roles within Meta and a former Brokerage candidate who had completed the programme and now works at Meta!
