Excitement builds as female undergraduates begin the Momentum programme

Female undergraduates begin mentoring programme

This month we are delighted to begin our female mentoring programme for undergraduates, in partnership with State Street and Citi.

Momentum, which takes place over the summer, provides female students with the opportunity to develop key employability skills, whilst gaining insight into financial services directly from a professional within that field.

Based on a survey conducted in 2017, we know that since the programme launch that year:

  • 11 participants went on to secure graduate roles or summer internships in investment banks
  • Four went on to secure a graduate role or summer internship in an accountancy and professional services company
  • Three went on to secure a placement year or graduate role in a technology company

These are fantastic achievements and we hope to see even more women using lessons from the programme to help with their future successes.

Momentum mentoring

We caught up with one mentee, Cordelia, at the programme’s launch event to find out what she hopes to gain from the experience:

Over the next few weeks I hope to learn and develop a lot. The programme will give me a platform to build confidence, feel empowered and learn new things. I feel the more you learn, the more you can have focus on where you want to go. I’m looking forward to learning from my mentor and having a female role model that I can look to as a reference for who I want to become and where I want to go in my career. She has such breadth of experience so I can’t wait to quiz her on how she got to where she is today.”?

It’s not just about the young people involved. The benefits of the programme are two-fold. Whilst the mentees are provided with an opportunity to gain insight and knowledge directly from someone at Citi and State Street, the mentors themselves are able to develop their own personal and professional skills throughout the experience.

Good luck to all on the 2019 programme. We look forward to hearing about what you’ve learnt and the skills you’ve developed!
