Students JumpStart their career development with MS Amlin.

The MS Amlin JumpStart programme, launched in October 2016, has given over 100 students a unique opportunity to help prepare them for their careers. 

The programme involved a fully immersive working experience in the insurance sector – an area of work that many hadn’t considered previously.

At the launch, our students took part in an insight day at MS Amlin. This was a great chance for them to explore the inside operations of an insurance firm, as well as finding out about the new MS Amlin mentoring and work placement.

During the insight session, students were informed about the five places available for the mentoring programme and work experience. This helped create a sense of eagerness in the room as many asked questions about the initiative, how to apply and what the company look out for in a successful application.

After a tough selection process, 12 shortlisted students attended an assessment centre. Five successful candidates were further shortlisted for one-to-one meetings with a young professional from MS Amlin, where they covered a different skill each month. This was an amazing opportunity for the students to identify their strengths and build on their areas requiring improvement.

At the start of the programme the students were taken out of the usual office setting spending seven days on a skill development adventure course run by The Outward Bound Trust. Through activities such as rock climbing, navigating and waterfall scrambling, they developed their team work and collaboration skills in a way they’ve never done before.

After a week of personal development, it was time for some office-based work. Each student spent four weeks at MS Amlin where they were given their roles with real responsibilities. All were placed within departments suited to their interests and skills set and received support from their appointed mentor.
