Launch of The Brokerage’s 25 Young Leaders Fundraising Drive

To mark our 25th anniversary year, we are pleased to launch our 25 Young Leaders Programme fundraising drive and announce the first corporate partner to agree to support this exciting initiative.

We know that diversity in the financial, legal and professional service sectors is still very low (fewer than 20% of people working in higher level professions come from working-class backgrounds) and the pandemic threatens to disproportionately impact young people from less-advantaged backgrounds. We also know that the skills organisations will require in the new hybrid-working world have shifted.

With financial and in-kind support from corporate partners and individuals we can provide 25 talented young people with a structured development programme that will equip them with the skills they need to be successful leaders in the post-pandemic world. We’re also delighted to announce that Per Ardua Associates Ltd, the executive search and leadership advisory firm working at the most senior levels of the Financial Services sector, have agreed to come on board as the first corporate supporter for this programme.

Sharing the reasons for supporting this programme, Simon Lowndes, Director and Corporate Officers Practice Leader at Per Ardua Associates Ltd, said:

“We’re delighted to come on board as the first sponsor of The Brokerage’s 25 Young Leaders Programme. In our capacity advising senior leaders in financial services on talent acquisition and development, we are committed to ensuring the sector is diverse and inclusive and know there is a long way to go. This programme is a fantastic way to bring through already talented young people to ensure they are equipped with the right knowledge and experience to thrive and progress to the top levels in our sector.”

This initiative will be based on our successful Generation 2020 Ambassador pilot which has seen school-leavers come together to leverage their voice as young leaders, engage with our corporate partners, input into our service design and promote our work. Sharing their experiences of this programme, our current young leaders said:

Being a Gen 2020 ambassador has proven to be an impactful experience, specifically in developing key skills like leadership and teamwork. I have been able to enhance my skills setting up the Podcast: A-Z Talks which I led on, assigning roles and collaborating to deliver the weekly episodes which have an international reach! The brokerage have given us, as young people, the chance to express ideas, meet other amazing young people, network, collaborate and develop as individuals. The key skills developed by being young leaders at the brokerage will definitely support us in our future.” Diana Hysenaj

“I’ve really enjoyed my time as a Gen 2020 Ambassador and it has been a great opportunity for me to develop my leadership skills. Representing the Brokerage during talks with schools, universities and corporate partners has developed my confidence and improve my public speaking, which is something I really enjoy doing.  The best thing about this experience as an ambassador has been connecting with like-minded people who genuinely support each other to be the best they can be and I’m excited to continue to see the growth of such an amazing group of young leaders I’ve worked with.” Emily Emiru

“As an Ambassador for The Brokerage and hosts on A-Z Talks, I have developed a range of skills. The experience has helped me be more responsible for what I do and have a time-conscious mind set and work to specific deadlines as well as lead and encourage others. Furthermore, I believe these skill will be incredibly valuable for me going forward and I can carry them into my future studies and career.” Zi Rong Huang

  • Before The Brokerage gave a presentation at my school, I didn’t even know what an internship was. I just thought it was something that university students do. Fast forward a few months and here I am, working in the heart of London.
